Kartar is one of India’s most respected names in agricultural mechanization, built on a legacy of indigenous innovation, farmer-centric engineering, and unwavering commitment to self-reliance. The journey began in 1974, when Sardar Amarjit Singh Lotey designed and manufactured India’s first indigenous combine harvester under the KARTAR brand—at a time when the country depended heavily on costly imports and lacked an industrial ecosystem to support such innovation.
Founded in Punjab, the heartland of Indian agriculture, Kartar Combines was created with a singular purpose: to make advanced harvesting technology affordable, reliable, and suited to Indian farming conditions. Long before mechanization became widespread, Kartar machines enabled farmers to improve productivity, reduce manual labour, and achieve timely harvesting.
What began as a single workshop grew into a movement. Kartar Combines became the cornerstone of India’s harvester industry, inspiring the formation of one of the largest agricultural machinery manufacturing hubs in the country. Today, nearly 90% of India’s harvesters are produced in this ecosystem, with Kartar recognized as its pioneer.
Over the decades, Kartar Combines has expanded its reach beyond India, exporting machines to 30+ countries, offering durable, cost-effective solutions for diverse agricultural conditions worldwide.
